ICLEI Cities Biodiversity Center offers cities and local governments a broad portfolio of supportive services surrounding biodiversity management at the local level. These services are available as part of our numerous programmes, as well as directly to clients on a case-by-case basis.
Technical expertise and capacity development
ICLEI Cities Biodiversity Center has a wealth of experience in developing cities capacity to integrate biodiversity into local level planning. Through our projects, we have worked with small, medium and large cities from across the globe. Technical expertise is offered via our programmes or on a case-by-case basis. Our work includes raising political awareness, technical biodiversity training, strategy development and biodiversity reporting.
Development of tools and resources
ICLEI Cities Biodiversity Center has developed or supported the development of a range of tools and documents to support local governments in integrating biodiversity into local planning and decision-making. All existing tools can be viewed and accessed on the dedicated tools page.
Profiling best practice
Cities around the world are making great strides in biodiversity conservation and much can be learnt from these case studies. ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability supports peer-to-peer learning and the profiling of best practice to assist local governments in developing their own programs and projects. Profiling best practice takes the form of written case studies and networking and learning exchanges (see below).
Global advocacy
ICLEI Cities Biodiversity Center has been instrumental in advocating the role of cities in the sustainable management of biodiversity resources at the local and global level. Through its various projects and initiatives, the Center provides a platform for the voice of local governments into the international community and for increased collaboration between different levels of government. ICLEI Cities Biodiversity Center provides a range of networking platforms and opportunities for local governments and partners including:
