Urban Natural Assets: Coasts for Life

This cutting-edge project is designed to support the daily challenges that local governments in Africa experience around protecting and revitalising their urban natural assets, in particular, in their coastal zones.

This project is funded by Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), through SwedBio at the Stockholm Resilience Centre.

UNA Coasts overall objectives are to:

Improve knowledge and understanding of the key challenges and opportunities that urban coastal zones experience

Examine the potential for natural assets to offset these challenges to maximise the opportunities

Design a tailor-made coastal natural asset management plan through co-production and transdisciplinary engagement with the two project cities and key local stakeholders

Mobilise project activities through alignment with international policies and processes (such as the Convention on Biological Diversity’s Aichi Biodiversity Targets and the Sustainable Development Goals)

Identify entry points to enhance sustainable livelihoods at the local level

*using the same methodology and steps as UNA Rivers
