Ensuring sustainable and climate-resilient urban development: Khazans

2021 – 2024
India
What we are doing
The Khazan lands are salt marshes in Goa in India that have been traditionally used for rice and prawn cultivation. With time, they have degraded to a great extent and there is urgent need for Khazan land management and conservation for climate resilient urban planning.
What we are achieving
The project will prepare
• A strategy and action plan for urban Khazan management which will have scope for replication in other coastal urban areas in the region
• A geo-referenced map of the Khazan lands in and around Panaji
• A time series analysis of the change in Khazans in and around Panaji for the last 20 years
