Session 3 of our Navigating the Convention on Biological Diversity: What local and subnational governments need to know webinar series

Co-organized by the CBD Secretariat, ICLEI, and Regions4, this webinar will focus on how the voice and ambition of cities and regions is presented at CBD COPs, particularly through the Summit for Subnational Governments and Cities. The summit is an official parallel event to the CBD COPs and a proud tradition that started 17 years ago. The session will also provide practical information about the 9th Summit and facilitate a discussion on shaping a common position for the local and subnational governments at COP17.

This session explores how the Convention on Biological Diversity translates global ambition into implementation through the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs). It will highlight key CBD decisions relevant to local and subnational governments, such as Decision 15/12 and its Decade Plan of Action. The session will also introduce current initiatives focusing on local and subnational biodiversity action to be presented at COP17 and explain how CitiesWithNature and RegionsWithNature contribute to monitoring progress and contribute toward the global review of collective progress in the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
